About Shu Uemura
Shu Uemura was a Japanese makeup artist who began working in Hollywood in 1955, becoming known for film work in the early 1960s. Back in Japan, he founded Japan Makeup in 1967, the forerunner of shu uemura cosmetics, and launched a cleansing oil that helped pioneer oil cleansing.
His philosophy was that beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin, and that professional tools and techniques should be available to everyone. Today shu uemura is part of L'Oréal.
One of the brand's most famous products is its Eyelash Curler. Launched in 1991 and developed by Shu Uemura's son Hiroshi Uemura with professional makeup artists, its wide, shallow curve and silicone pad are designed to fit a wide variety of eye shapes. The S Curler is a smaller version for the corners of the eye and shorter lashes.
For shoppers, curl clean, dry lashes before mascara. Place the curler at the base of the lashes, squeeze gently for a few seconds, then move along the lashes for a natural curve. Replace the silicone pad regularly for the best results.
